The Pathway We Work: Remote Supports Under HCBS Self-Direction

Luka Bear is positioned as Remote Supports / Enabling Technology and Assistive Technology under Medicaid Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers — funded through each state's self-directed / participant-directed budget or provider process. It is a non-medical assistive device that provides active, on-demand support, not passive surveillance.

How funding works. Luka Bear aligns with CMS HCBS definitions for Remote Supports, Enabling Technology / Electronic Home-Based Supports (EHBS), and Assistive Technology — technology that increases independence in ADLs, IADLs, and health-related tasks. Authorization is made through each state program's own process (self-direction budget, provider service, or AT benefit). Specific service names, rates, and rules vary by state and waiver.
